What do you think is the coach’s role in a Teaching Games for Understanding approach?
When implementing the games, a coach’s role is to:
Set up the game and its rules
Decide what questions to ask the players so they can learn about a particular aspect of their performance.
The ‘art’ is selecting or designing purposeful games that work on options and situations based on the needs of the players, knowing when to stop and problem solve with the players and when to just let them continue, so they learn on their own.
