Black Sox coach Mark Sorenson has named a training squad to prepare for the 2022 World Cup.

The Golden Homes Black Sox selectors have selected a squad of 20 athletes.  New Zealand U23 Major Sox coaches Steve Deans and Fergus McAlpine have named 16 players to contest the men’s inaugural WBSC U-23 Men’s Softball World Cup.

Softball NZ had been advised by WBSC on Sunday, February 13 that the scheduled 2023 U18 Mens Softball World Cup has now been ratified with an age eligibility extension to U19.

A New Zealand White Sox softball international is training with a local men's team to keep her skills sharp.

This evening, the Softball New Zealand Board decided to postpone the 2022 National Fastpitch Championship. Scheduled for February 10-13 in Christchurch, the National Fastpitch Championship (NFC) is the pinnacle national championship on the softball calendar.
 

The Black Sox haven't played a competitive match since the last World Cup in 2019 due to the Covid-19 pandemic and have even had domestic opportunities go begging with lockdowns and other restrictions.

Come November, the Black Sox will be in Auckland looking to claim their eighth world title at the World Cup.
