Black Sox captain Cole Evans slammed his Central Auckland Bolts into the final of Fastball 45®’s northern regional qualifier at ELE Stadium in Albany. Evans smashed two home runs bringing home two other runners with his first hit and smacking a grand slam in his second turn at bat, effectively single handedly taking the game away from the North South Auckland Generals. They eventually won 11-8 and will take on the East Auckland Heat in Sunday’s final. In the women’s division the Auckland’s Central Rays will play West Wave after the Rays had a convincing 9-5 win against the North South Tribe. Pinch hitter Ariana King delivered a three run home run for the Tribe in the fourth inning but it wasn’t enough with the damage already done. Fastball 45®’s revamped format sees a runner start on first base in the first innings, two for the second and loaded bases in the third. It brings the potential for heavy scoring toward the end of each game with the matches played in four innings or inside 45 minutes - whichever comes first. Sunday’s women’s final is at 2pm and the men at 3pm with both games live on Sky Sport 3. |
