Day two of the FASTBALL 45® Southern Regional Qualifier saw the tops seeds take on the fourth at Mizuno Ballpark in Christchurch tonight. Both the Sporting Edge Halswell Hornets women’s and ELE Papanui Tigers men’s team showed why they were ranked number one with heavy defeats over their opposition. Pak n Save Papanui Tigers had no answer for Hornets aggressive base running and short game tactics as they were dominated from start to finish losing 9-2. Tigers could take some respect out of the loss by restricting the Hornets to only one hit and clearing the inning though a double play while the bases were loaded in the bottom of the third. Hornets and White Sox pitcher Amy Begg threw a one hitter and took 4 strikeouts as she led her team into tomorrow’s final. Kaiapoi Kings were no match for ELE Papanui Tigers in the men’s game being beaten by the largest margin in league results to date 11-2. The Tigers amassed 12 hits with Anthony Stuart and Tyron Bartorillo driving in 3 RBI’s each. Sunday’s women’s final is at 2pm and the men at 3pm with both games live on Sky Sport 3. |
