It is with sadness we let our Ramblers members and friends know of the passing of the longtime Life Member, Bruce Bishop.
Bruce joined Ramblers as a youngster in the mid 1950’s and found his position at first base.
He played for the Premier men’s team from 1958-1968, captaining the side for most of those years.
In the late 1960’s while playing Premiers for Ramblers, he also spent 3 seasons coaching the young juniors of the club, and would in the late 70’s go on to become the coach of the premier men’s side for a number of years.
Capping off his career, Bruce also captained the Auckland Senior men’s’ side for nearly 10 years, and represented in the New Zealand B team.
Softball at Ramblers was a real family affair. Carole, as well as all three kids; Brett, Rhys and Simonne all donning the Maroon and Gold with Simonne still playing, now often seen on first base.
Bruce was awarded a Life Membership in 1992 and was instrumental in helping gain council consent for the current club rooms at Warren Freer Park.
Our deepest sympathies to all the family.
Thank you Bruce for all your time and dedication to Ramblers
