Ted Nichols, born 23 June 1936, passed away on Monday 15 January 2024 at Porirua.
Many of you will have had contact with Ted over many years in the softball world, where he carried a famous name through the sport. He was a brother of Ron (Digger) and Barry, both of whom have passed, and an uncle of Mike and Wayne Nichols.
Ted played his early softball in Wellington for the Melrose Club with his brothers and later with Island Bay. He was part of the Wellington Evergreens Softball Organisation for may years, commencing at Horowhenua in 1978 and attended almost every tournament since then. He played for many years and then became the Traveling Umpire for Wellington.
In 2000 Ted was among the few Wellington players listed as participating for Wellington for 20 years.
In 2013 at North Harbour Ted was honoured as one of the Legends of Evergreens and was awarded a Certificate “In recognition of outstanding support and achievement throughout years of the Men’s Evergreens Softball.”
Ted was not well over the past couple of years and spent his last days with a Daughter at Porirua.
You will all have some special memories of Ted and he will be remembered by the Evergreens for many years.
