Inspired by the strategic thinking, we have developed our core idea which brings our purpose, our vision, our daily task, our belief and our promise - all of our strategic elements together.
Softball, like a diamond, sparks a vibrancy of colour in the lives of those who are involved with the sport.
Accepting Māori worldview, Aotearoa communities and global cultures that call New Zealand home.
Tai – thinking of the four regions, four metaphorical bases stretching across Aotearoa:
Tai (tide) – speaks to movement, rhythm, and place. These regional tides represent more than geography, they symbolise whakapapa, whanau, connection, and collective flow. These tides form a living, flowing map of connection. Where softball is not a single game, but a nationalmovement shaped by regional character.
Can you feel it?
The afternoon sun casts warm shadows over the diamond, families arriving with gentle laughter and quiet conversations blending softly in the air. Tamariki tighten their gloves, elders reconnect through shared stories, friends greeting each other warmly, each adding their unique presence.Tai Aroha touches every corner of our land.
From Te Tai Tokerau’s warm sands to Te Waipounamu’s alpine slopes, from Te Hauāuru’s rugged shores to Te Tairāwhiti’s gentledawn. It weaves through every community, connectingplaces, people, and the shared passion for this game.
Then, the shout "Play Ball!"
Feet shift quickly, dust swirls, the gritty texture mixingwith anticipation. Gravel crunches underfoot, eyes narrowin concentration. The unmistakable crack of bat meeting ball sends pulses racing. Cheers erupt alongside gasps, emotions amplified in every rapid heartbeat. Softball is lifeturned up. Quick, unpredictable, exhilarating.
Here, courage isn’t measured by force alone, but by the willingness to step up, to accept failure in pursuit of success.
Bring your culture, your traditions, your own style of play. Here, diversity strengthens the game. Unique skills, vivid personalities, fresh perspectives, all blending into a vibrant energy on the field.
The aroma of shared kai drifts through the air, mingling with friendly conversations. Cool drinks refresh dry throats, laughter softens the day’s excitement, deepening friendships and building bonds. Imagine this richness in every corner of Aotearoa.
Every community with its own diamond, every child welcomed onto the field, every whānau embraced warmly.
It's more than sport; it’s belonging, built over generations and countless shared afternoons.
Tomorrow offers another opportunity. An opportunity togather, to compete, to celebrate the sensory joy and deep connections softball creates.

Mō mātou | About us
Softball New Zealand supports over 20,000 participants nationwide, from community clubs through to our Men’s Black Sox and Women’s White Sox on the world stage. Our vision is an Aotearoa where every community has a diamond and every child has a glove, and our purpose is to harness the energy of softball to support whānau to thrive.
